Dog-friendly breweries in Melbourne

12 breweries, all sourced · updated

The 10-second version

  • Most breweries keep dogs to the beer garden, rooftop or courtyard.
  • A few say on their own site that dogs can come inside the taproom. We flag those in amber: check on arrival.
  • Trivia, events or bad weather can change where dogs are allowed.

Boatrocker Barrel Room

Braeside · 34 Macbeth Street, Braeside VIC 3195

Outside Venue says so
Inside Venue says inside OK

Where dogs go: Large front beer garden (covered and part-covered seating, food truck on weekends)

FAQ: 'Dogs are allowed in both the outdoor and indoor areas of the venue.' Water bowls available; clean up after your dog. Indoor access sits awkwardly with the current Victorian food rules, so it could change; check on arrival.

CoConspirators Brewing Co

Brunswick · 377 Victoria Street, Brunswick VIC 3056

Outside Venue says so
Inside Venue says inside OK

Where dogs go: Front beer garden, plus the brewpub bar area

Brewery says dogs are 'welcome across the entire venue, inside and out', with water bowls and spent-grain dog biscuits at the bar. Indoor access sits awkwardly with the current Victorian food rules, so it could change; check on arrival.

Gales Brewery

Brunswick East · 28 Gale Street, Brunswick East VIC 3057

Outside Not stated
Inside Not stated

Where dogs go: Not stated: the brewery calls itself 'dog friendly' but doesn't say where

Home page says 'Great beer, a cosy atmosphere, and dog friendly' without saying which areas. Ask the bar where your dog can sit.

BrewDog Pentridge

Coburg · Pentridge Prison, E Building, T101/1 Champ Street, Coburg VIC 3058

Outside Reported by guides
Inside Not stated

Where dogs go: Large outdoor beer garden with bookable 'cells' (per the Pentridge precinct directory)

BrewDog's venue page shows a 'Dog friendly' badge without saying which areas. The Pentridge directory describes a 'huge dog-friendly beer garden'. Indoor dining isn't mentioned.

Brick Lane Brewing (Dandy Taphouse)

Dandenong South · 41 Imagine Way, Dandenong South VIC 3175

Outside Reported by guides
Inside Reported by guides

Where dogs go: Beer garden and covered patio (per Pupsy); open Thursday and Friday daytime only

Pupsy lists 'Dogs Inside'. Brick Lane itself only says 'Our Brewhouse is child and dog friendly' without naming areas, so indoor access is unverified: ask first. Hours are short (Thu 11am–5pm, Fri 11am–6pm when we checked).

2 Brothers Brewery

Moorabbin · 4 Joyner Street, Moorabbin VIC 3189

Outside Venue says so
Inside Not stated

Where dogs go: Beergarden (heaters in winter; fans and a retractable roof in summer)

Venue calls the Beergarden 'dog-friendly' and doesn't say dogs can go in the Beerhall. The Beergarden has a retractable roof: when it's closed, the open-to-the-sky rule may mean staff move you.

Wolf of the Willows

Mordialloc · 39 De Havilland Road, Mordialloc VIC 3195

Outside Venue says so
Inside Venue says outside only

Where dogs go: Beer garden and outdoor tables; add a note to your booking so they can seat dog owners well

FAQ: 'Due to food health and safety, dogs are accommodated, but are not allowed to enter the indoor area of the venue and must be supervised at all times.'

Moon Dog World

Preston · 32 Chifley Drive, Preston VIC 3072

Outside Venue says so
Inside Venue says outside only

Where dogs go: Huge beer garden (weather dependent)

FAQ: 'Doggos are welcome in the beer garden only.' Trivia nights are held inside, so the brewery suggests leaving dogs at home for trivia.

Check with the venue before you go. Policies change, areas get booked for functions, and covered areas may close to dogs when blinds or roofs are shut.

The rule: can dogs go inside a Victorian pub?

Not where food is handled or served, under the rules in force as of 22 October 2026. A venue may allow pet dogs in an outdoor dining area that isn't enclosed: not substantially closed by a roof plus walls or windows, even temporarily (think café blinds and a closed retractable roof), and reachable without walking through an enclosed area. Assistance animals must be allowed in all customer areas. Councils enforce this, often only after a complaint.

Why trust this list?

  • Every place links its source: the venue's own site, a council page or a named guide.
  • “Venue says so” only when the venue itself states the policy. Everything else is labelled “Reported by guides”.
  • Dated. Each card shows when we checked. We aim to re-check every place within 120 days.
  • Not paid for by venues. Any partner links are labelled, with the commission disclosed.
  • We don't guess. If nobody says, it's “Not stated”. If sources clash, it's “Sources disagree”.

How we check

Melbourne's craft breweries are mostly big converted warehouses with roller doors, long benches and a yard out the front, which makes them some of the easiest places in Victoria to take a dog for a pint. This page lists twelve breweries and brewery bars that say they welcome dogs, from Brunswick and Preston to Frankston and Dandenong South, and quotes each brewery's own words on where your dog can sit.

How to read it:

  • Outside: did the brewery itself say dogs are welcome in its beer garden, rooftop, balcony or courtyard (Venue says so)? Or did we only find that in a directory (Reported by guides)? If a brewery just says "dog friendly" without naming an area, we mark it Not stated.
  • Inside: two breweries (CoConspirators in Brunswick and Boatrocker in Braeside) say on their own sites that dogs can come inside. We show those as Venue says inside OK in amber, not green: Victoria's food rules still keep pet dogs out of areas where food is handled or served, so treat it as the brewery's call on the day. Here's where the law is up to.

Three dog-friendly breweries already sit on our Melbourne pubs list: Stomping Ground in Collingwood, Bodriggy in Abbotsford and Bridge Road Brewers in Brunswick East. Two names you'll still see on older lists aren't here: Range Brewing's Abbotsford taproom closed in June 2024, and Hop Nation in Footscray now says on its own site that it can't accommodate dogs.

We only list breweries with a source: the venue's own website, a reputable guide such as Time Out, Urban List or Broadsheet, or a dog-venue directory. “Venue says so” means the venue's own site states the policy. Everything else stays “Reported by guides” until a venue confirms it. Missing one? Suggest it, with a link if you can.
